Introduce Charyl to your home
A two-minute film: walk Charyl through your house room by room with the mobile app, and the three habits that get her the best reads.
Most of what Charyl does for you — keeping track of warranties, finding manuals, keeping a record of every service — starts with knowing what’s in your house. The quickest way to tell her is to walk her through it: the mobile app takes you room by room, you photograph the label on each appliance, and she drafts the records for you to approve.
Early access
The walkthrough lives in the mobile app, which is in early access and needs Charyl Cloud. See how to get the mobile app if you don’t have it yet.
Three habits that get the best reads
- The label, not the appliance. A photo of the whole water heater tells her almost nothing. Find the sticker with the brand, model and serial number on it.
- The whole sticker, up close. Get all of it in the frame, close enough to read, without glare from the flash.
- Tell her how old it is. A rough guess is fine. If it’s under two years old she asks which month too, because the install date is what a warranty’s end date is counted from.
How the walk goes
-
Start on Today
In the mobile app, tap Let Charyl meet your home. The app suggests about twenty minutes for a typical house. Pick your rooms or just start, and stop whenever you like — she picks up where you left off.
-
Photograph each label
Rooms come in order, starting where the important things live, and in each one she asks for a few things in turn. She reads the label while you’re still standing in front of it and tells you what she sees. Tap That’s right, or Not quite to correct it. Glare and blur are usually caught on the spot, so you’re less likely to be sent back later for a retake.
-
Cross off what isn't there
Don’t have one? Tap Don’t have one and she crosses it off. Skip for now keeps it on the list for next time. At the end of each room she asks if there’s anything else worth knowing about.
-
Review and approve
When you’re done she reads everything properly — usually within a few minutes — and tells you when it’s ready. Review the drafts together and approve them; nothing she drafts goes on your home’s record until you do.
What you’re left with
Everything you approve is on your home’s record, with any manual she found for it attached. She keeps looking for the warranty terms of each one she identified too, and drafts the warranty for you to approve when she finds them. If you told her the month it went in, its end date is counted from then. From there you can ask her about any of it, and see it all in the web app and the mobile app.
