What needs a subscription, and what doesn't?

Research, remote camera live view, cloud chat, automatic cloud backups, push, and updates need Charyl Cloud. Everything else — inventory, devices, manuals, Home Records — works without it.

Needs Charyl Cloud: product research (there’s no local version of it, on any path); live view of a camera from outside your home network (local live view on your own network is never gated); chat, on the box as it ships today, or as a fallback on self-hosted hardware without a capable local model or your own key; automatic encrypted cloud backups; mobile push notifications; and automatic, health-checked updates with rollback — without a subscription, you update a self-hosted box by hand.

Works without it: everything else — your inventory, warranties, and maintenance records; manuals and documents Charyl can already read; Home Records; device control and dashboards; sensors; memory; and local camera live view on your own network. Self-hosting gets you the whole platform; the subscription adds the pieces above.

A subscription doesn't hide the rest of the house
