What happens if my subscription lapses?

Nothing about your home stops working. Your inventory, devices, sensors, and rules keep running exactly as they were — a lapse only reaches the parts of Charyl that specifically depend on the subscription.
What does change: Charyl’s chat goes quiet. Without an active subscription, and without a capable local model or your own key to fall back on, there’s nothing for chat to route to. The rest of the box — everything not listed as needing a subscription — is unaffected.
An honest gap, not a hidden one
Today the app doesn’t yet explain this state clearly — the message you’ll see wasn’t written for a lapsed subscriber, and we’re fixing that. If chat suddenly stops answering, a lapsed subscription is one of the things worth checking in the meantime.
