Most of what people use Charyl for day to day doesn’t touch a smart-home device at all: photographing an appliance’s nameplate so she can draft an inventory entry, asking her a question about a manual, logging a repair in a sentence, or asking what a homeowners-association document actually says. None of that needs a single light bulb or sensor — an apartment with nothing automated gets the full benefit of the household side.
Smart-home control is a separate, optional layer for households that do have devices — lights, switches, and fans, connected through Home Assistant. (Singer Intelligent Homes’ own sensors add temperature, humidity, light, and presence readings on top of that.) If you never add any, Charyl simply never offers to control anything, and nothing about the rest of the product changes.
So: start with what you own, whether or not any of it is “smart,” and add devices later if and when it makes sense for your house.
