The box is on but the app can't find it

Try the box's LAN IP address directly if its friendly name doesn't resolve — that name only works on a Linux Docker host, not Mac or Windows.

This usually means the browser or app is trying a friendly name that isn’t resolving on your network, not that the box is actually unreachable.

  1. Try the box's LAN IP address directly

The box’s friendly network name only advertises itself on a Linux Docker host — it’s a no-op on Mac and Windows setups, so those need the box’s IP address on your network instead, or localhost:8080 if you’re on the same machine as the box.

  2. For the mobile app specifically, pairing isn't network discovery

The app doesn’t scan your network to find your home — it pairs by scanning a QR code shown in the web app. If pairing won’t complete, confirm your phone and the box are on the same network first.

Known, named limitation

A box’s friendly local name not resolving on Mac or Windows isn’t a bug to chase — it’s a real gap in how that name gets advertised, and using the IP address directly is the documented way around it.
