How do I connect Home Assistant?

Charyl finds it on your network, walks you through a token, and previews the devices before bringing any in.

Charyl looks for it on your network — during setup, or any time afterward from Settings — and asks whether the one she finds is yours. Say yes, and she walks you through creating an access token (a numbered guide with a link straight to the right page in your own Home Assistant), tests the connection automatically, and shows you a preview of the devices she found. Bring them all in at once, or review them one at a time.

If discovery doesn’t find your instance, you can type its address directly.

Charyl doesn’t replace Home Assistant — she reads its devices and sensors and adds conversation, proposals, and notifications on top of everything you’ve already built there.

If you don’t run Home Assistant yet, setup still leaves the smart-home features enabled, with a way to connect one whenever you’re ready. On the box, a bundled Home Assistant is discovered and adopted automatically if no external one is found, so you may already have one running without having set anything up yourself — see Does the box include Home Assistant?
