What do I need to run Charyl?

Most homeowners will run Charyl on the box: a small piece of hardware we set up for you, built around the same software as the self-host path. Its exact hardware isn’t finalized yet, so we won’t name a specific model here, but the plan is for it to be modest, quiet, and always on.
If you’d rather self-host, today that means a Linux machine (amd64) you keep running, with Docker Engine and Compose installed — not Docker Desktop. Budget a couple of gigabytes of free memory and enough disk for your database and any photos or documents you upload; wired Ethernet is worth using over Wi-Fi, since the box holds a persistent connection to relay your data when you’re away. The stack listens on a handful of ports on your home network (the web app, the API, and — if you use it — Home Assistant); the database and Charyl’s own service are never exposed to your network.
A native Windows installer, for people who don’t want Docker at all, is designed but not built yet.
